Exploiting The Fantasy Football Matchup in Week 5.
By: Matthew Lotshaw @nostraballus
The defending Super Bowl champs Philadelphia Eagles are known for their defense, more particularly the waves of pass rushers that disrupts opposing quarterbacks. All that said, the Eagles have a huge issue in their secondary as opposing WR’s have gone off on them on a weekly basis. Julio Jones, DeSean Jackson and last week Corey Davis all went over 100 yards. Now with the best WR duo in the NFL coming to town, Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs, this is bad news for the Eagles secondary.
The Falcons boast one of the best receiver corps in football and I suggest you fire them up once again against a struggling Steelers secondary. Calvin Ridley has been getting all the fantasy love with an NFL leading 6 touchdown catches but Julio Jones is still Julio Jones, as he leads the NFL with 502 receiving yards. Both are great plays this week. Also don’t sleep on Mohamed Sanu in this matchup as he received 9 targets last week for 111 yards.
The Falcons defense is also a matchup to exploit in this potential shoot out. Losing both their starting safeties for the season along with the speedy Deion Jones leaves gaping holes in their defense. Last week Andy Dalton had his way with them, so what do you think the high powered Steelers offense led by Ben Roethlisberger at Home will do. Put up huge yardage and points is the correct answer. Play all the starters- Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster, James Conner and Vance McDonald. Also if you’re looking for a deep sleeper, James Washington and/or Ryan Switzer can get in the end zone.
If you look at the numbers, the Chiefs are actually more susceptible against the running back position but without Leonard Fournette this week, the Jaguars wide receivers are looking to eat against the Chiefs secondary. Of course T.J. Yeldon is also an excellent play as he makes plays out of the backfield. Blake Bortles will be in shotgun for the majority of this game trying to play keep up or stay head of the explosive Chiefs offense. Fire up Bortles and the Jags receivers in this matchup.
The Bills can be beaten in a plethora of ways but it all starts with their inability to slow down opposing teams running backs whether on the ground or through the air. The main question in this matchup will be which Titans back will be the right play? For PPR leagues and the safer play, roll with Dion Lewis but if you’re in a non PPR league or looking for a DFS sleeper, then you’re guy is Derrick Henry. If Henry doesn’t produce this week, then you probably can drop him going forward as this is as sweet of a Matchup that you can find.
Injuries to the interior of the Raiders defensive line is starting to rear its ugly head. Nick Chubb had 3 carries last week and broke two of them for long runs totaling 105 yards and 2 touchdowns. Bad news for a defense that plays one of the best running back duos in football, Melvin Gordon and Austin Ekeler. This is a great matchup to exploit for the Chargers backfield so I suggest you get both in your lineups.
