Next man up is the theme for the waiver wire pickups this week as injuries have taken its toll on NFL and fantasy rosters. Owners of Le’Veon Bell, Steve Smith Sr, Keenan Allen, and Matt Forte should definitely be on the look out for the next man up.

Fantasy Football Add/Drop – Week 9

Quarterback:

Add – Derek Carr

If totally destroying the number two defense in Week 8 to a tune of 333 yards and 4 TDs isn’t enough to roster Derek Carr then I’m not sure what else to tell you. Maybe his stat line of 622 yards and 7 TDs to 0 interceptions over the last 2 weeks sways you to scoop up the Raider QB off waivers. He has given a franchise mired in irrelevance hope in potentially making the playoffs as he has exceeding expectations throughout his young career. Rookie receiver Amari Cooper and veteran Michael Crabtree gives Carr a one-two punch and has helped Carr grow as a quarterback. Carr is worth owning in all formats as he is producing QB1 numbers currently.

Notables – Tyrod Taylor, Jameis Winston

Running Back

Add – DeAngelo Williams

Next man up! The injury to Le’Veon Bell opens up a huge void in the Steelers rushing attack that replacement Deangelo Williams is more than capable of filling. Williams is the top waiver pick up this week who will supply you with RB2 numbers with the potential of RB1 goodness. If you have any concern about how the Steelers will use him or how he will play as the man in the backfield, look no further than what Williams accomplished earlier this season with Bell suspended the first to games. 41 carries for 204 yards and 3 TDS should get all fantasy owners excited. Run, grab him and don’t look back.

Notables – Jeremy Langford, C.J. Spiller, David Cobb, Christine Michael

Wide Receiver

Add – Stevie Johnson

Next man up! Starting receiver Keenan Allen went down with a devastating lacerated kidney injury ending his season. It will be hard to replace Allen’s (2nd in the league) 67 catches and third ranked 725 receiving yards but someone has to catch QB Phillip Rivers’ 40+ passing attempts per game. Stevie Johnson will lead the committee in replacing Allen’s production and should be picked up in all formats. As a matter of fact, Malcom Floyd and Dontrelle Inman should also be added because of the love Rivers dishes out to all his receivers. Johnson shares much of the same skill set as Allen and should fit right into the possession/security blanket receiver role and be the guy on the outside Rivers targets the most.

Notables – Malcom Floyd, Kamar Aiken, Dontrelle Inman, Marquess Wilson, Dwayne Harris

Tight End

Add – Vernon Davis

Hey I think we found that guy from the side of the milk box, fantasy zombie Vernon Davis is back on the fantasy radar. He is still a super athletic size/speed combination beast who can stretch the field and the move to Denver to play with Peyton Manning increases his value exponentially. The Broncos are all in this season in making a Super Bowl run with the addition of a pass catching tight end. Davis might not be as impactful early on as he learns Gary Kubiak’s tight end friendly offense but the potential of a TE1 down the road is enough for you to roster him on your team.

Notables – Charles Clay, Austin Sefarian-Jenkins, Jacob Tamme

Defense

Add – Bengals D

Johnny Manziel is starting on a short week (Thursday Night Football) in Cincinnati. Enough said.

Drop List:

Colin Kaepernick
Joseph Randle
Andre Ellington
Alfred Morris
Roddy White
Owen Daniels
