The Fantasy Football Playoffs are already under-way. This is it! This is what you’ve been waiting for! Time to get those lineups right.
Fantasy Football Start/Sit – Week 14
Start – Eli Manning vs Cowboys
Call this one a hunch. The Giants’ offense has been wholly inconsistent this season despite a bevy of weapons on the perimeter. Problem is their offensive line struggles to control the line of scrimmage. That being said they were able to do so against Dallas, Week 1 on the road. This is obviously a different Cowboys team heading into Week 14 than the one the Giants faced in the season opener but divisional games are typically unpredictable and the Giants’ offensive line isn’t as bad as Minnesota’s. I think Eli can get you into the 2nd round of your fantasy playoffs. Dallas is ranked 28th against the pass, 22nd in sacks (23), 31st in interceptions (4) and 29th in passer rating against. I expect the Giants to have one of their better offensive performances this season in this game. It’ll be interesting to see how much playing time Shane Vereen gets in this game, he is a difference-maker on this team.
- Colin Kaepernick vs Jets
- Carson Palmer vs Dolphins
- Ben Roethlisberger vs Bills
Sit – Robert Griffin III vs Bengals
It’s certainly a favorable matchup but don’t get cute. Bob is too volatile and is always a risk NOT to finish the game due to injury.
Start – Jeremy Hill vs Browns
The Bengals have struggled to run the football mightily this season and with A.J. Green out of the lineup things have gotten even more difficult. It’s hard to trust Hill in the playoffs considering his last two performances that netted just 54 rushing yards on 35 carries albeit against stout run defenses. However, Hill’s best game of the season came against these very same Cleveland Browns where he gashed them for 168 yards and a touchdown on only nine attempts in Week 7. I still believe in his talent, the volume should be there and his opponent isn’t very good. Don’t expect a Top 5 running back performance but Top 10-12 should be a reasonable expectation.
- Tevin Coleman vs Rams
- Matt Forte vs 49ers
- Jordan Howard vs Lions
Jay Ajayi vs Cardinals
This is a cautionary tale rather than a true sit recommendation. Check the injury status of the Dolphins’ offensive line. Mike Pouncey is out and Branden Albert and Laremy Tunsil have battled injuries this season. If the left side of the line is in tact I can’t in good conscience recommend sitting Ajayi despite facing a very good Cardinals run defense yardage wise but very forgiving regarding rushing TDs. If either or both fail to dress pivot on Ajayi.
Start – Mike Evans vs Saints
During the Buccaneers’ four game winning streat Jameis Winston hasn’t been exactly firing on all cylinders. This hasn’t necessarily slowed down Mike Evans but he did have a bit of a hiccup last week against a better than advertised Chargers defense where he was held to 3/38 on six targets. Never fear, the New Orleans Saints come to town and offer a panacea. The league’s leader in targets (139) will continue his impressive 2016 campaign and build on his 76 receptions (3rd most in NFL), 1,058 yards (3rd most in the NFL), and 10 TDs (tied for 2nd in the NFL).
- Donte Moncrief vs Texans
- Brandon LaFell vs Browns
- Tyrell Williams vs Panthers
- Michael Thomas vs Buccaneers
Allen Robinson vs Vikings
The combination of Blake Bortles and Xavier Rhodes does NOT bode well for big-play wideout Allen Robinson. Over his last three contests Robinson has a line of 8/73/1. That’s not an average ladies and gentlemen, that’s total. Rhodes is allowing less than a 50.0 passer rating when targeted this season second only to Aqib Talib. Look elsewhere if you haven’t already done so.
Start – Jermaine Gresham vs Dolphins
Gresham has been trending up in recent weeks and with the likelihood of Kiko Alonso missing this contest on the heels of Dennis Pitta’s 9/90/2 performance in Week 13 against the Phins it’s time to buy-in. Don’t expect a Pitta-like outburst but Gresham has an intriguing floor this week.
- Ladarius Green vs Bills
- Jason Witten vs Giants
- Greg Olsen vs Chargers
Dwayne Allen vs Texans
As I mentioned last week the Texans suffocate tight ends. Don’t chase that Monday Night explosion from Allen. He will return to being under-utilized in the passing game in Week 14.
Defense to stream
Detroit Lions vs Bears
Don’t look now but the Lions have something brewing in Detroit.
