Fantasy Football Waiver Wire (Add/Drop) – Week 5

Add – Deshaun Watson Houston Texans

Deshaun Watson’s 5 touchdown performance against the Titans in Week 4 was one for the ages as he put the Texans on his back and messed around and dropped 57 points in a NFL game. He wasn’t playing in the ACC against Syracuse or Boston College, he made a professional team look silly and overmatched on Sunday. Last week he made my waiver wire post as an add but it seems that many didn’t take heed as he is still under 50% ownership. If you are need of a quarterback due to the injuries to Derek Carr and Marcus Mariota or facing a bye week with Matt Ryan, Drew Brees, Kirk Cousins and Trevor Siemian, then Watson is your guy hands down. I can argue you can start Watson over most of the above names on a weekly basis. Why? Because of what he does with his legs. Yea I know Watson isn’t going to throw for 4 touchdowns each week but he has an extremely safe fantasy floor due to his prowess as a runner in the open field. We’ve seen many quarterbacks put up QB1 numbers i.e Tyrod Taylor and Timothy Tebow due to their running ability but Watson is a much better passer than both which gives the rookie quarterback a much higher ceiling. This is your last chance to acquire Watson so get those waiver claims in.

Other Players who deserve an Add
  • Jared Goff Los Angeles Rams
  • Tyrod Taylor Buffalo Bills

Drop – Jay Cutler Miami Dolphins

Running Backs

Add – Alvin Kamara New Orleans Saints

The loss of Dalvin Cook for the season really hurts my heart and the ankle injury to Chris Carson makes the running back position even thinner. Luckily for fantasy owners in need, they’re many running back options to choose from on the waiver wire this week. Alvin Kamara tops my list as his head coach Sean Payton just can’t help himself from feeding the rookie with targets in the pass game. PPR league managers need to add Kamara immediately. The Saints look like they’re phasing Adrian Peterson out of  the offense (Was he ever in it?) with only 6 snaps in Week 4 even though the team led from the beginning to the end of the game. We all know Payton hates Mark Ingram and even though he out-snapped Kamara 46 to 26 this week, I believe Kamara is the running back to own in New Orleans going forward. The Saints want to get Kamara the rock as much as they can when he touches the field due to his Reggie Bush/Darren Sproles like ability to score from anywhere on the field. If Kamara is gone from your waivers, these players below are viable options as well.

Other Players who deserve an Add
  • Latavius Murray Minnesota Vikings
  • Jamaal Charles Denver Broncos
  • Andre Ellington Arizona Cardinals
  • D’Onta Foreman Houston Texans
  • Aaron Jones Green Bay Packers
  • Wayne Gallman New York Giants
  • Alex Collins Baltimore Ravens

Drop – Paul Perkins New York Giants

Wide Receivers

Add – Cooper Kupp Los Angeles Rams

After putting up back-to-back duds in Week 2 and Week 3, Cooper Kupp reclaimed his claim for a spot on your roster with a 60 yard one touchdown performance against the Cowboys. The Rams receivers are a bit frustrating to gauge due to their spread the wealth nature under head coach Sean McVay but Goff’s BFF is clearly Kupp. Kupp should be on a roster and it’s probably best you play the matchups on when to insert him in your starting lineup because you don’t want to miss out on the weeks when he catches a bunch of passes and puts up a score. Think 2016 Jamison Crowder.

Other Players who deserve an Add
  • John Brown Arizona Cardinals
  • Devin Funchess Carolina Panthers
  • Geronimo Allison Green Bay Packers
  • Will Fuller Houston Texans
  • Jaron Brown Arizona Cardinals

Drop – Jordan Matthews Buffalo Bills

Tight Ends

Add – Evan Engram New York Giants

I feel like a broken record recommending adding Evan Engram every week this season. But somehow he is still under 50% ownership at a position that is as unreliable as it gets. Meanwhile Engram has put up very reliable numbers throughout the season catching at least 4 passes in every game while receiving 11 targets last week against the Buccaneers. Engram will continue to produce while other tight ends around the league haven’t quite lived up to their expectations, you know who they are.

Other Players who deserve an Add
  • Cameron Brate Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • Vernon Davis Washington Redskins
  • Benjamin Watson Baltimore Ravens
  • Tyler Kroft Cincinnati Bengals

Drop – Julius Thomas Miami Dolphins
