AFC South Update
The Jacksonville Jaguars have agreed to a five-year $46 million deal ($24 mil guaranteed) with top free agent tight end Julius Thomas formerly of the Denver Broncos. Thomas’ addition to the Jaguars gives Blake Bortles a big time miss match and security blanket in the middle of the field. The Jags came into free agency with approximately $68 million in cap space and knew the only chance of acquiring top flight talent and reaching the salary cap floor was to over pay. Thomas will now go from catching passes from Peyton Manning to Blake Bortles, which in turn will limit his fantasy football production (ask Eric Decker). In a relatively thin tight end market the Jaguars’ spent big money on the best in the class and gave their second year QB a major red zone threat, catching 24 TDs over the last two seasons.
Additional Jaguar moves:
OT Jermey Parnell – five-year $32 million deal ($13 million guaranteed)
DE Jared Odrick– $7 million per year
LB Dan Skuta – five-year $20.5 million deal
CB Davon House – $6.25 million per year
