NFC West Update
With the 49ers still in mourning after the departure of Frank Gore and early retirement of Patrick Willis, they finally get some good news with the signing of wide receiver Torrey Smith formerly of the Ravens. Smith and Anquan Boldin will re-form their duo from their days in Baltimore. Smith gives the Niners a much needed deep threat to stretch opposing defenses. Both sides have agreed to a five-year $40 million deal with $22 million guaranteed. Hopefully for the Niners’ sake Smith can help in the development of quarterback Colin Kaepernick as he finally gets his first play-making deep threat receiver in his career. Smith’s speed should open up the field for the short to intermediate passing game.
