CPGM Headley’s Mock Draft 2018 – 1.0
1. QB Sam Darnold USC – Cleveland Browns
“Josh Rosen has no interest in playing for you so selecting the next best quarterback on the board makes sense.”
2. QB Josh Rosen UCLA – New York Giants
“The heir apparent to Eli Manning.”
3. Edge Bradley Chubb N.C. State – Indianapolis Colts
“Flirted with Saquon Barkley here as Colts owner Jim Irsay has a man crush but if GM Chris Ballard gets his way I think he drafts Chubb.”
4. S/CB Minkah Fitzpatrick Alabama – Cleveland Browns
“The Browns need help in the secondary, therefore Fitzpatrick is the guy.”
5. OG Quenton Nelson Notre Dame – Denver Broncos
“Nelson might be the best player in this draft. Elway gets his quarterback in free agency.”
6. QB Josh Allen Wyoming – New York Jets
“The Jets miss out on the Kirk Cousins sweepstakes and draft Allen who is a boom or bust prospect.”
7. RB Saquon Barkley – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
“The amazing Barkley falls to the Bucs. I still believe they should’ve drafted Dalvin Cook last season.”
8. OT Connor Williams – Chicago Bears
“The Bears have solid interior lineman, time to add a tackle to protect Mitchell Trubisky.”
9. WR Calvin Ridley Alabama – San Francisco 49ers
“With their franchise quarterback in the fold, the 49ers go out and get him a number 1 receiver.”
10. LB Tremaine Edmunds Virginia Tech – Oakland Raiders
“The talented linebacker is too good of a player for the Raiders to pass up. He can help in the run game, cover and get after the quarterback.”
11. QB Baker Mayfield Oklahoma – Miami Dolphins
“First curveball of the draft. The Fins take a quarterback and give up on Ryan Tannehill.”
12. OT Orlando Brown Oklahoma – Cincinnati Bengals
“The Bengals couldn’t run the football last season so getting a mauler in the run game will go a long way.”
13. LB Roquan Smith Georgia – Washington Redskins
“Smith is a sideline to sideline linebacker that will fit nicely in the middle of the Redskins defense.”
14. CB Denzel Ward Ohio State – Green Bay Packers
“The Packers can’t cover so getting one of the better cover corners in the draft is the best pick for them.”
15. EDGE Marcus Davenport UTSA – Arizona Cardinals
“New head coach understands building a defense from the front-to-back so getting a bookend to Chandler Jones is key.”
16. WR James Washington Oklahoma State – Baltimore Ravens
“Joe Flacco desperately needs more weapons and Washington is a good one.”
17. S Derwin James Florida State – Los Angeles Chargers
“The rangy safety can fly around and help improve the Chargers shaky run defense.”
18. RB Ronald Jones USC – Seattle Seahawks
“The Legion of Boom stays together which leads the Seahawks to improve their maligned running game.”
19. DT Maurice Hurst Michigan – Dallas Cowboys
“Rod Marinelli gets his 3-technique to get after the quarterback.”
20. EDGE Arden Key LSU – Detroit Lions
“A pass rusher is a big need for the Lions and Key has the potential to be the best in the class.”
21. DT Vita Vea Washington – Buffalo Bills
“The Bills got gashed after trading Marcell Dareus. Vea is a big body that can anchor the interior.”
22. QB Lamar Jackson Louisville – Buffalo Bills
“The Bills move on from Tyrod Taylor and draft his replacement.”
23. CB Mike Hughes UCF – Los Angeles Rams
“The Rams will draft a cornerback early in the draft. Hughes fits the bill.”
24. WR Christian Kirk Texas A&M – Carolina Panthers
“Another weapon for Cam Newton that can catch it short and go the distance.”
25. EDGE Harold Landry Boston College – Tennessee Titans
“The Titans get younger on the edges with Landry who has the juice.”
26. DT Da’Ron Payne Alabama – Atlanta Falcons
“Payne will be a plug and play starter on the interior defensive line of the Falcons.”
27. WR Cortland Sutton SMU – New Orleans Saints
“The defense is heading in the right direction so they can pounce on the best receiver left on the board.”
28. CB Josh Jackson Iowa – Pittsburgh Steelers
“They can go inside linebacker here but the length and ball skills of Jackson wins.”
29. OG Isaiah Wynn Georgia – Jacksonville Jaguars
“The Jaguars continue to improve their offensive line with one of my draft favorites.”
30. C/OG Billy Price Ohio State – Minnesota Vikings
“More beef in the trenches as Minnesota will look to feed Dalvin Cook in 2018.”
31. CB Jaire Alexander Louisville – New England Patriots
“With Malcolm Butler on his way out, drafting Alexander who looks to be the next Asante Samuels will be a nice pickup.”
32. LB Rashaan Evans Alabama – Philadelphia Eagles
“Evans will feast behind that Eagles front four.”
