It is Fantasy Football Championship Week for most of you and the majority of games will be played on a Saturday no less. Here’s some last minute advice to help you decide on who to start or sit. If you’ve taken the contrarian route with respect to this post and you are in the “Ship” don’t stop now!
Fantasy Football Start/Sit – Week 16
Start – Russell Wilson vs Cardinals
Too many breakdowns in coverage for the Cardinals this year and with their season long struggles you have the likes of Patrick Peterson trying to do too much to compensate for his teammates compounding the issue. The Honey Badger has been placed on the shelf and Russell Wilson’s ability to extend plays coupled with Tyler Lockett’s re-emergence into the offense bodes well for Wilson’s fantasy owners. If nothing else the cornerback opposite Pat Pete should be peppered all game long. Despite the fact that this is typically a highly competitive divisional matchup Wilson should have a big game.
- Ben Roethlisberger vs Ravens
- Phillip Rivers vs Browns
- Marcus Mariota vs Jaguars
- Jameis Winston vs Saints
Sit – Joe Flacco vs Steelers
We’ve seen Joe Flacco’s ownership percentage rise over the last month or so for good reason. He’s been a viable streaming option and may have been the lynchpin to your playoff run. However, it’s time to get off that train and look elsewhere. They are playing defense in Pittsburgh again. The Steelers are allowing only 206 passing yards per game over the last five weeks. Pittsburgh is surging and Flacco is/was streaky. I think Flacco’s recent run of legitimate fantasy worthiness comes to an end in Week 16.
Start – Todd Gurley vs 49ers
WHY THE HELL NOT!?!
- Rob Kelley vs Bears
- Derrick Henry vs Jaguars
- Latavius Murray vs Raiders
- Carlos Hyde vs Rams
Terrance West vs Steelers
I got news for you, Kenneth Dixon is the best running back on the Ravens’ roster. Baltimore typically fashions a stout defense particularly against the run. However, they have been susceptible to a good passing game. Big Ben is at home (home/road splits) and the Ravens’ top defensive back Jimmy Smith won’t be in the lineup. I expect the Ravens to play catch-up in this contest and obviously that has an impact on game flow. Rookie running back Kenneth Dixon is the preferred option when the Ravens are in pass mode so… Terrance West’s volume is a huge question mark this week. Steer clear.
Start – Travis Benjamin vs Browns
I recommended Sammy Watkins in this post last week against these same Browns and he managed a crippling 1/10 on 4 targets (he contributed to an early playoff exit in a league of my own). Here’s the difference this week; Phillip Rivers > Rex Ryan + Tyrod Taylor. Even with the emergence of Tyrell Williams and the consistent play of Dontrelle Inman, Travis Benjamin’s speed has been missed in San Diego’s offense. Benjamin’s speed was on display as he found pay dirt on a deep pass from Phillip Rivers last week and I expect a screamer or two to find Benjamin against the 0 – 14 Browns in Week 16. The Chargers will “try” to run the football against the Browns without Melvin Gordon because everyone does, but I like Benjamin in a “revenge game” spot.
- Dontrelle Inman vs Browns
- Ted Ginn Jr. vs Falcons
- Malcolm Mitchell vs Jets
- Marqise Lee vs Titans
Brandon Marshall vs Patriots
Just in case you haven’t been paying attention; Marshall hasn’t had a 100-yard game since Week 5 and no TDs since Week 12. His last score did come against the New England Patriots but Belichick has some game film on Bryce Petty now (who has been awful by the way). Bill vs. inexperienced quarterbacks… you know how that goes. I’m sure the targets will be there but completions have been hard to come by with Petty at the controls.
Start – Antonio Gates vs Browns
The Browns are dreadful in terms of defending the tight end position. The future Hall of Famer scores touchdowns. I’m thinking a 5/60/1 kind of line which I would take in a heart beat.
- Cameron Brate vs Saints
- Kyle Rudolph vs Vikings
- Martellus Bennett vs Jets
Dennis Pitta vs Steelers
Have you started to notice a trend? Outside of Mike Wallace or Steve Smith Sr. in a fit of desperation I’m avoiding the Ravens in fantasy football this week.
Defense to stream
San Diego Chargers vs Browns
The Chargers are in the midst of their annual swoon but you can’t lose to the Browns. There will be opportunities for takeaways, all they have to do is capitalize.
