Fantasy Football Waiver Wire (Add/Drop) – Week 15

Add – Blake Bortles Jacksonville Jaguars

Waiver WireIt’s almost always a conversation of “Fantasy vs. Reality” when it comes to Blake Bortles. But the reality is he is a Top 12 Fantasy QB now that Carson Wentz and Josh McCown have been ruled out for the remainder of the season with injuries. His 16:8 TD/INT ratio is modest but he’s currently completing 60.2% of his passes (on pace for a career high) and if that 2:1 TD/INT ratio remains in-tact that would be a career best as well. Armed with a consistent running game, an underrated offensive line, and an elite defense Bortles has been afforded the opportunity to play complimentary football thus eliminating the pressure he has historically crumbled under. If you’re in a pinch at the quarterback position or have been streaming starters throughout the year Bortles should be added to your roster during the fantasy playoffs. Weeks 15 and 16 mark the semifinal and championship weeks for most and Bortles has matchups against the Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers who have allowed the 2nd and 4th most fantasy points to the quarterback position this season, respectively. Although he has struggled throughout his career versus Houston expect Bortles to exorcise his Texans demons this Sunday.

Other Players who deserve an Add

Drop – Josh McCown New York Jets

Running Backs

Add – Jonathan Stewart Carolina Panthers

Waiver WireA disappointment the entire season, Jonathan Stewart saved his best to date for the quarterfinals by doubling his touchdown output on the season with three touchdowns against the now 2nd best fantasy run defense in the NFL (Minnesota Vikings). It wasn’t as if Stewart churned out yardage at a consistent clip throughout the contest as 60 of his 103 yards came on one play but he has remained firmly entrenched as the lead-back on 1st and 2nd down and is the preferred choice among the Carolina running backs at the goal line. In Week 15, Stewart and the Panthers faced the Green Bay Packers who allowed a season high in carries and rushing yards to Isaiah Crowell (19/121) last week. Ideally, you aren’t starting Jonathan Stewart this week despite his impressive Week 14 performance but if you are scraping the barrel of the waiver wire consider Stewart in a plus match-up. If that wasn’t enough to convince you to add Stewart he faces the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 16 who have allowed the 3rd most rushing touchdowns on the season (13).

Other Players who deserve an Add

Drop – Ameer Abdullah Detroit Lions

Wide Receivers

Add – Tyrell Williams Los Angeles Chargers

Williams has had a pedestrian season to this point (32/580/3) compared to his 2016 breakout campaign (69/1059/7) despite Philip Rivers lighting up the opposition over the last month or so. This is primarily due to the fact that Keenan Allen is soaking up targets and eviscerating the opposing secondary on a weekly basis. However, with Week 15 and 16 match-ups against the Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets who have allowed the 2nd and 7th most fantasy points to receivers respectively; I think Williams should be targeted on your waiver wire to bolster your fantasy rosters down the stretch. Williams is coming off his best game of the season last week (4/132/1) and should continue to see man-to-man coverage as the Chiefs and Jets roll coverage towards Allen. Two of Williams’ three touchdowns this season have come on a pair of 75-yard catch and runs. His big play ability, in a passing attack that is firing on virtually all cylinders could prove to be the “FLEX” play that carries you to a 2017 Fantasy Football Championship.

Other Players who deserve an Add

Drop – DeSean Jackson Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tight Ends

Add – David Njoku Cleveland Browns

Waiver WireThere truly is no telling with Hue Jackson. Rookie tight end David Njoku had enjoyed an uptick in his snaps and “routes-ran” in weeks 12 and 13 only to see those numbers plummet in Week 14. However, “Chief Njoku” will face the Baltimore Ravens in Week 15, one of the most forgiving teams when it comes to defending the tight end position. The Ravens were just torched by seldom utilized TE Jesse James last week who had 10 receptions and 97 receiving yards on 12 targets. With Josh Gordon and Corey Coleman drawing a ton of attention on the perimeter Njoku should find plenty of space in the middle of the field, short, intermediate and vertical. There is an inherent risk relying on Hue to dial up plays for Njoku and for DeShone Kizer to hit the rangy tight end but he’s in as good a spot as any to have a BIG game in Week 15.
