Fantasy Football Waiver Wire (Add/Drop) – Week 2

Add – Sam Bradford Minnesota Vikings

At first I was going to highlight Alex Smith after his career performance against the Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots, however the first quarterback to add via waivers is Sam Bradford. The 8th year veteran has had a rocky career battling injuries and poor offensive line play while having to adjust to new teams and multiple offensive coordinators. After being thrown into the fire last season to replace Teddy Bridgewater, Bradford is now in a situation where he is healthy, with a new and improved offensive line and weapons around him and continuity with offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. In Week 1 he shredded a porous Saints defense for 346 yards and 3 touchdowns as he stood tough in the pocket and delivered strikes to Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen. Obviously Bradford will not have the privilege of playing the Saints defense each week, but with an improved running game with the talented Dalvin Cook and time to throw in the pocket, this can be Bradford’s breakout season. I’ve questioned Bradford’s toughness and inability to stretch the field in the past but he is the guy to target in your leagues as he can make every throw and can put up more big games if his offensive line protects him.

  • DeShone Kizer Cleveland Browns

Drop – Andy Dalton Cincinnati Bengals

Running Backs

Add – Tarik Cohen Chicago Bears

I remember watching Tarik Cohen’s tape in anticipation for the NFL Draft and thinking this kid can be an electrifying third down back who can excel in space. What I didn’t expect was how quickly he would become a factor in the NFL. “The Human Joystick” as he was dubbed at North Carolina A&T, Cohen hit the ground running showcasing his shiftiness, speed and receiving ability in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons. Cohen led the Bears in rushing yards and receiving yards while receiving 12 targets and only 3 less touches than starter Jordan Howard. Cohen has earned himself more playing time after this performance and should be the number 1 running back to get in this week’s waiver. I came into this season as a big Howard supporter but with the Bears figuring to play from behind a bunch and Cohen’s ability to catch the football, Howard’s fantasy ceiling is a huge question mark. Attention in all PPR formats! Cohen is the new Darren Sproles of the NFL. Yea I said it.

Wide Receivers

Add – Kenny Golladay Detroit Lions

I admit I was kind of late on the Kenny Golladay hype train but preseason Week 3 is when I became a believer. All training camp long I kept on hearing Golladay’s name as someone who was impressing in practice but I didn’t witness it yet with my eyes so I kind of overlooked him. The rookie receiver backed up the hype in Week 1 of the regular season by catching 2 touchdown passes in the fourth quarter to help the Lions comeback to beat the Arizona Cardinals. Golladay is the big play red-zone weapon that Stafford was missing last season as all he does is catch TDs of the spectacular variety. I have stats to backup why Golladay is a must add. The Lions led all teams in Week 1 in 11 personnel as they ran a three-receiver set on 54 plays. This means more opportunities and targets for Golladay with Golden Tate and Marvin Jones all on the field at the same time. Cooper Kupp is another rookie receiver that should be added to your roster but I prefer Golladay over Kupp due to his big play ability and touchdown potential.

Tight Ends

Add – Evan Engram New York Giants

A lot of rookies made the Week 1 add list as my number 1 tight end to add is the first year tight end Evan Engram. Even with a disastrous Week 1 performance by Eli Manning, Engram still put up respectable numbers with 4 catches for 44 yards. I am a strong believer in not buying rookie tight ends due to their steep learning curve but Engram is not your normal tight end. He is another slot receiver to pair with Sterling Shepard inside that Manning can take advantage of in the Giants quick passing offense. I am not a big fan of Eli but with a healthy Odell Beckham to take the pressure off the veteran quarterback there should be better performances ahead for Manning. Engram is athletic in and out of his breaks with speed to burn after the catch and should be a viable TE1 in his rookie season. Pick him up.
