Fantasy Football Waiver Wire (Add/Drop) – Week 3

Add – Trevor Siemian Denver Broncos

After battling in training camp with Paxton Lynch for the starting quarterback position, Trevor Siemian is clearly the Broncos quarterback for the foreseeable future putting together two consecutive victories including his 4 touchdown performance against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. That’s now 6 touchdowns in two weeks under new offensive coordinator Mike McCoy who seems to be getting the best out of Siemian as he looks more aggressive and confident in his 2nd year as starter. Personally I am not ecstatic about  adding any quarterbacks off the waivers this week but Siemian is your best bet if you’re in need for a signal caller. Yes he looks improved in his first two games but we saw flashes like this last season as he had a 4 touchdown game in Week 3 in 2016 and another 3 touchdown game in Week 12. The key for success will rest heavily on the Broncos offensive line and their ability to get a push in the running game which will make it easier for Siemian to take shots down the field utilizing a play action fake. The run game sets up the pass and if the Broncos continue to run the football with success (leads the league with 318 yards) then it will make Siemian’s job easier as the “point guard”.

Running Backs

Add – Chris Carson Seattle Seahawks

Here is the add of the week with Chris Carson as he has the ability to take your team to another level if he is given the opportunity by Seattle to become the lead back. You can’t truly gauge what’s going on in the mind of head coach Pete Carroll but if he is smart, the Seahawks need to get back to their identity of being a physical run first team like the days of Marshawn Lynch. Carson is no Lynch but the offensive line for the Seahawks is absolutely horrendous and they can’t rely on Russell Wilson to make every play under siege. The Seahawks offense struggled all game on Sunday moving the football against the 49ers defense, however the lone bright spot was Carson who carried the ball 20 times for 93 yards churning out tough yardage. The Seahawks backfield was extremely crowded coming into season but the smoke has cleared a bit as Eddie Lacy is terrible (inactive in Week 2), Thomas Rawls has not demonstrated he can stay healthy and C.J. Prosise not seeing the playing time. Carson is the last man standing and has looked the best. The 7th round draft pick from Oklahoma State garnered 51 snaps to Thomas Rawls’ 16 and has entrenched himself as the Seahawks “Bell Cow”. Get him on your team as he has the potential to put up RB2 numbers going forward.

Wide Receivers

Add – Jermaine Kearse New York Jets

Jermaine Kearse is the number 1 receiver on a team that will be trailing in a bunch of games, forcing them to abandon the running game and pass the football. Yes I know he plays for the Jets and that their offense is dreadful but hear me out. Someone has to catch the football right? Josh McCown typically finds the one receiver he loves and peppers them with passes and I believe Kearse is that guy as he has 14 targets through the first 2 games and has come away with 123 yards and 2 touchdowns after two weeks. Kearse led the Jets in offensive snaps with 49 of 56  and will continue to get the volume in the Jets offense. Volume is key when it comes to fantasy football so if a player has the snaps, targets and red-zone opportunities then he is a no-brainer to stash on your roster and potentially play as bye weeks emerge.

Tight Ends

Add – Evan Engram New York Giants

I tried to tell you all last week that Evan Engram is the tight end to own under 50% ownership. He is a “tight end” on paper but his skill set screams wide receiver. The Giants are not interested in getting Brandon Marshall involved in the offense which makes Engram the go to option behind Odell Beckham. The tight end position in the league/fantasy football was hit with a colossal amount of injuries with Greg Olsen out 6-8 weeks with a broken foot, Tyler Eifert set to miss Week 3 with a knee and back injury and Rob Gronkowski, Jordan Reed and Jimmy Graham battling ailments of their own. Grab Engram before it gets too late.
