Waiver Wire

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire (Add/Drop) – Week 6

It’s getting close to the half way point in your fantasy season and it’s right around that time to get that big waiver addition to push your teams into the playoffs. This week’s waiver wire has some great bye week QB additions, some nice RB depth pieces and some emerging wide receiver options that can change the landscape of your fantasy team. So enjoy and keep up to date on all fantasy news at couchpotatogm.com.

(Add recommendations will include players owned in less than 50% of leagues)

Add – Brian Hoyer Chicago Bears

Tony Romo isn’t the only quarterback that shouldn’t get his starting position back because of the play of his backup. Jay Cutler needs to sit and watch from the sidelines as the Brian Hoyer led Chicago Bears are up to something in the Windy City. Yes, we know who Hoyer is. A middling NFL quarterback that has been on multiple teams. However, he is putting together the best string of games in his career, throwing for 3 straight 100 yard games including a 397 yard performance last week against the Indianapolis Colts. The new look QB/RB duo in Chicago are scoring points and making things competitive. Hoyer is spreading the ball all over and limiting the Cutler gene, turnovers. He has thrown for 1,016 yards 6 touchdowns to 0 interceptions in his 3 starts this season and should be an add on the waiver wire. The bye weeks are picking up and you need a QB on your team who can put up big numbers.

  • Sam Bradford Minnesota Vikings
  • Trevor Siemian Denver Broncos

Drop – Ryan Tannehill Miami Dolphins

Running Backs

Add – James White New England Patriots

Now with Tom Brady back from his 4 game suspension, the Patriots will lean more heavily on their passing attack. This change directly buoys the fantasy production of the Pats pass catching back James White. In PPR leagues he is a must add as he can give you at least 5 catches per game. In standard leagues he can be a good pickup as well due to the uncertainty of the running back position. White has a nice floor each and every week with the potential to amass 100 total yards and a touchdown in any given game. White out snapped starting running back LeGarrette Blount with the Patriots having a substantial lead over the Browns last week. I suspect White will have a major role in this offense going forward until the return of Dion Lewis. Fantasy owners need wins now and White can be safely played as flex or even a RB2 in your lineup.

  • Jacquizz Rodgers Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Wide Receivers

Add –  Cameron Meredith Chicago Bears

Maybe the Bears should have been playing their second unit from the start as Jordan Howard, Hoyer and now Cameron Meredith have all looked better and have produced over their starting counterparts. Meredith was an unknown to me before Kevin White went down with an injury late in the Bears Week 4 matchup against the Detroit Lions. In one of my fantasy leagues I was in a tough spot, so I scooped and started Meredith in Week 5 and he didn’t let me down catching a TD with 9 receptions and 130 yards. Watching this game very closely, I’m officially on the Meredith train and I believe this game was no fluke and we should see many more like it. Meredith might be the second coming of Victor Cruz, a receiver to come out of nowhere and become a household name. The 6’3 207 pound receiver from Illinois State has a great catch radius with the ability to rack up yards after the catch with his dynamic agility in the open field. He is this weeks top waiver addition who can make a mark on your roster each and every week.

Tight Ends

Add – Hunter Henry San Diego Chargers

I guess this will be my weekly Tight End add until Hunter Henry gets to 50% ownership in fantasy leagues. The Chargers need all the playmakers they can have get with the injuries to Keenan Allen and Danny Woodhead. Therefore, even though Antonio Gates is back in the lineup, Henry will still have a role and be a great option for you at a position that is extremely volatile. The tight end position apart from the big 3 (Gronk, Olsen, Reed) will be hit or miss each week so to get a talent in your lineup like Henry, who you can pick up right now off of waivers, can be a shrewd move for fantasy owners. Henry has amassed over 60+ yards in 3 straight games with a TD in back-to-back weeks. He should continue his success in the Chargers’ pass happy offense.
