Fantasy Football Waiver Wire (Add/Drop) – Week 7

Add – Brett Hundley – Green Bay Packers

For all the Aaron Rodgers owners out there, I feel your pain. The broken collarbone injury suffered by the greatest thrower of the football is a crushing blow to your fantasy football team however you need to keep hope alive and either trade for a quarterback or hit the waivers for his replacement. You won’t find Rodgers’ production on the waiver wire but keep shooting until something sticks. If Andrew Luck is on your waivers, put a claim in and hope he progresses and gets back to form from his off-season shoulder surgery. If not, you don’t have to go far to get the quarterback (owned under 50%) with the highest upside in Packers backup Brett Hundley. Last week’s performance against the Minnesota Vikings should not be an indictment of his fantasy prospects as he was forced into battle ill-prepared without getting any first team reps in practice and was on the road against a hungry Top 5 NFL defense. Hundley has flashed in prior pre-seasons and has been in Mike McCarthy’s system for three seasons. I believe once he gets full first team reps and builds confidence as this is now his team going forward then we can expect to see QB2 numbers with a chance to provide QB1 upside. Hundley is a threat with his legs and has a lot of weapons in the Packers offense so I believe the combination of both will make him a viable option moving forward.

Running Backs

Add – Orleans Darkwa New York Giants

Ok I admit I gave you all the wrong Giants running back last week by recommending adding Wayne Gallman. It was Orleans Darkwa who the Giants relied on in Week 6 as he rushed for 117 yards on 21 carries against a tough Broncos run defense. Quite frankly it was one of the biggest surprises in Week 6 as a Giants offense that had no success running the football all season long, ran the ball effectively against a Broncos defense that held pro-bowl running backs Melvin Gordon, Ezekiel Elliott, LeSean McCoy and Marshawn Lynch to a grand total of 95 yards on 50 carries. The Giants revamped their offensive line and finally listened to what I’ve been saying all season long, RUN THE FOOTBALL. Darkwa is a hard-nosed no non-sense type of back that gets the tough yardage between the tackles. If the Giants want to dig themselves out of a 1-5 hole then they need to rely heavily on Darkwa and/or Gallman for the rest of the season. Game script and the hot hand approach will likely flip flop these backs going forward but Darkwa is the safer play as the Giants trust his style of running more.

Wide Receivers

Add – John Brown Arizona Cardinals

I’m doubling down on John Brown this week as he works his way back into the Cardinals passing offense. Brown has always been a favorite of mine but has battled multiple injuries throughout his career. He looks healthy for now and has caught a touchdown pass in back-to-back games. The addition of Adrian Peterson in the offense makes Brown an even more dangerous deep threat as an effective running game sets up the play action passing game. He has surpassed Jaron Brown and J.J. Nelson as the clear cut number 2 option in the Cardinals passing game and will be a great flex option as long as he stays healthy.

Tight Ends

Add – Jack Doyle

Who the hell is Jack Doyle? Doyle was one of my sleeper picks coming into the season due to his rapport with Andrew Luck. Well the health of Luck hasn’t gone exactly as we anticipated way back in August leaving Doyle as a matchup based option. Yes Doyle needs to clean up some of his concentration issues but it seems like new Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett likes Doyle as his security blanket. Doyle received 11 targets which he capitalized on Monday night for 50 yards and a touchdown. With a tight end position that has gone through a plethora of injuries, Doyle can be trusted as a TE1 going forward. Get Doyle on your team if you are in a tight end quandary.
