Waiver Wire

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire (Add/Drop) – Week 9

Let’s get to it waiver wire style. Keep up to date on all fantasy news at couchpotatogm.com.

(Add recommendations will include players owned in less than 50% of leagues)

Add – Josh McCown Cleveland Browns

Not too many viable options at the quarterback position this week but if you are looking for a bye week replacement, try Josh McCown. The Browns quarterback carousel continued last week as McCown got the start against the New York Jets and put up a nice 341 yard 2 touchdown performance. McCown gets a sneaky good matchup against a Cowboys’ secondary that will be without top corner Morris Claiborne and safety Barry Church. The Browns should be behind all season long which equals more throws for McCown. Stream McCown if he gets the start in Week 9. (If he doesn’t get the start add Cody Kessler)

Other Players who deserve an Add
  • Jay Cutler Chicago Bears
  • Ryan Fitzpatrick New York Jets

Drop – Carson Wentz Philadelphia Eagles

Running Backs

Add – Tim Hightower New Orleans Saints

I finally found something that Head Coach Sean Payton hates more than running the football, running the football with Mark Ingram. It’s safe to say Ingram is in the dog house in New Orleans after being benched for an early game fumble. But what was more surprising was the fact that the Saints went ahead and gave Tim Hightower 26 carries last week against the Seahawks. Hightower wasn’t super productive only averaging 3.9 yards per carry but the volume was there and it seems like Payton trusts Hightower a lot more than he does Ingram. I wouldn’t call it an absolute changing of the guard in the Saints’ backfield but to get a running back this late into the season who can potentially take over as the lead back is a waiver wire addition you need to jump on.

Other Players who deserve an Add
  • Charcandrick West Kansas City Chiefs
  • Rob Kelley Washington Redskins
  • Dion Lewis New England Patriots
  • Bilal Powell New York Jets
  • James Starks Green Bay Packers

Drop – Jamaal Charles Kansas City Chiefs

Wide Receivers

Add –  J.J. Nelson Arizona Cardinals

At the start of the season the debate was do you go with John Brown or Michael Floyd. Brown has outplayed Floyd thus far but the answer in hindsight is neither. The struggles/injuries of both Cardinal receivers has opened the door for the initial 5th receiver on the depth chart J.J. Nelson. The Cardinals number four receiver Jaron Brown is out for the season and Nelson is now the go to receiver behind Larry Fitzgerald. Nelson’s 4.2 speed has become a favorite for Carson Palmer who still loves to throw the ball vertically down the field. Nelson broke out last week with 84 yards and 2 touchdowns while receiving 19 targets over the last two weeks. I expect this trend to continue making Nelson the WR pickup this week.

Other Players who deserve an Add
  • Sammie Coates Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Kenny Britt L.A Rams
  • Jamison Crowder Washington Redskins
  • Corey Coleman Cleveland Browns

Drop – Cameron Meredith Chicago Bears

Tight Ends

Add – Eric Ebron Detroit Lions

Look who is back. Eric Ebron returned last week after a three week absence and had a pretty nice game. Ebron caught a career high 7 receptions to go along with 10 targets and 79 yards. With a tight end position that is extremely volatile, Ebron has been consistent catching at least 4 passes in every game and between 42-79 yards. A 58 yard average with the possibility to catch a TD each week is a valid tight end this season.

Other Players who deserve an Add
  • Dennis Pitta Baltimore Ravens
  • LaDarius Green Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Cameron Brate Tampa Buccaneers
  • Austin Hooper Atlanta Falcons

Drop – Zach Ertz Philadelphia Eagles
