Jason Pierre-Paul Fireworks Incident

NFC East Update

New York Giants’ defensive end, Jason Pierre-Paul loss any leverage he had previously in terms of garnering a multi year contract with recent reports of a Fourth of July fireworks mishap. Pierre-Paul, who is from the south Florida area was rushed to the hospital with injuries to his hand and fingers after a firework explosion took place. The Giants have consequently pulled their $60 million long term contract offer. The 26-year-old pass rusher is coming off a bounce back 2014 campaign where he recorded 12.5 sacks (the most since 2011). JPP will now play out the 2015 season on the $14.8 million franchise tag and will likely miss significant time in training camp and the preseason. Details of the extent of his injury have still not been disclosed but it is feared that Paul might have nerve damage to his hand. This is bad news for a Giants team/defense that needs impact players on that side of the ball. Potentially losing their best defender for part of the regular season is a huge blow to the G-Men.

UPDATE: Jason Pierre-Paul reportedly had his right index finger amputated due to injury from the fireworks incident.
