It would appear that J.J. Watt returned to the field too soon after undergoing surgery on his back. RapSheet reports that Watt has re-injured his back and will be out “an extended period of time,” possibly the rest of the season. To say that the 27-year-old has been a force throughout his career would be an understatement. There is quite a bit of talent on the Texans defense but Watt forced opposing teams to have to game plan for him. The likes of Jadeveon Clowney and Whitney Mercilus both off to strong starts this season, will have to significantly raise their level of play to start to mitigate the loss of Watt for any amount of time. The AFC South is up for grabs.
