NFL Draft Prep – Kendricks vs. Perryman

Leading up to the NFL Draft many teams will continue their evaluation process on prospects while altering their draft boards in preparation for Draft day. Couch Potato GM will provide you a breakdown of two prospects matched against each other with similar draft projections to get you prepped for the 2015 draft. Voting option below for your input on who you think the better prospect is.

The Similarities: The inside linebacker position is headlined by two smaller backers in Eric Kendricks 6’0 and Denzel Perryman 5’11. What these guys lack in size they make up for it with their tremendous instincts and downhill toughness. They diagnose plays using awareness with no wasted moves on their way to the ball carrier. Tackling is another attribute these stout linebackers have in common. Rarely will you see missed tackles as both players demonstrate textbook technique in bringing down opposing players. Both prospects have the ability to fill running lanes and disengage/shed blockers with ease.

The Differences: Perryman’s physicality and big hit mentality makes him a dominant presence and feared defender who will bring toughness to a team day in and day out. A true leader Perryman is a thumper who hits and brings his pads with him when delivering a blow. He is a much more aggressive player than Kendricks but sometimes plays overly aggressive putting himself in bad positions. Kendricks is a more fluid athlete who reads and reacts with patience and control often times making the smart and right football play. The biggest strength Kendricks has over his counterpart is his ability to be a three down linebacker as he is ahead of Perryman in pass coverage. Kendricks is more natural playing in space showing more range in his drops.
