Patriots bring back Brandon Spikes

AFC East Update The Patriots bring back a familiar face with the signing of middle linebacker Brandon Spikes. The linebacker who was drafted by the Pats in 2010 spent the first 4 years of his career in New England rejoins the franchise after being released in 2014. Spikes spent last season in Buffalo where he underperformed under defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz. Now with Rex Ryan running the defense the Bills did not view Spikes as a full time player. A two down run stuffer, Spikes did not get the contract he was looking for in free agency so he decided to sign a one-year deal with his former team. With linebackers Dont’a Hightower and Jerod Mayo recovering from surgeries Spikes adds much needed depth to the Patriots’ linebacking core.
