Patriots decline Revis’ option

The Patriots after giving free safety Devin McCourty a five year contract, unsurprisingly declined All-Pro CB Darrelle Revis’ $20 million option making him a free agent. Patriots’ fans should not panic just yet as the team has engaged in on-going talks with Revis’ representatives to work out a new contract.

Last season Revis Island was back in full force as the star corner re-established himself as the NFL’s premiere cornerback after a year removed from a serious knee injury. Revis is the very best in man-to-man coverage, often blanketing the opposition’s best receiver all over the field. The Patriots will do their best to re-sign him as he was a key factor in them reaching and winning the Super Bowl this past February. Revis is a shrewd business man and will look to capitalize on the open market. Expect him to be the highest paid cornerback when it’s all said and done.
