Patriots decline Vince Wilfork’s Option

AFC East Update

The New England Patriots will part ways with one of their most recognizable players over the past decade, Vince Wilfork. The mammoth of a nose-tackle, is a 5-time pro bowler and when healthy, can still anchor a defensive line as a space eater on first and second down. Wilfork no longer possess the ability to push the pocket on passing downs like he did in his most formidable years and with last year’s first-round pick Dominique Easley in the fold and the Patriots utilizing more even man fronts, Wilfork, at an $8.06 million cap number was no longer worth that financial commitment to New England. Expect that additional cap room to be earmarked for the Patriots’ offer to Darelle Revis.
