Pittsburgh Steelers extend Mike Tomlin

AFC North Update

Head Coach Mike Tomlin has signed a contract extension through the 2018 season which will reportedly place him among the highest paid coaches in the NFL. According to Ian Rappoport the deal will make Tomlin one of the highest paid coaches in “all of sports.” Unfortunately, the specifics of the extension have not been made public yet. Tomlin has manned the controls since 2007 as the Pittsburgh Steelers have appeared in two Super Bowls, winning one during his tenure. Tomlin was 36-years-old when the Steelers won their last Championship, the youngest Super Bowl winning head coach in NFL History. Now 43, Tomlin is among the most respected coaches in the NFL.

The Steelers have had a mixed bag of success over the past few seasons but a Tomlin coached Steelers team has never finished a season below .500 and are coming off an 11-5 2014 campaign. The offense could potentially be the very best in the NFL and a concerted effort has been made to get younger on the defensive side of the ball but as far as CPGM is concerned until Pittsburgh can get its secondary in order (2015 draft selections: Senquez Golson, Doran Grant, and Gerod Holliman) and find a consistent pass rush the Steelers may not be able to hold off the Baltimore Ravens for the division in 2015.

Mike Tomlin has an 82-46 record during the regular season a .641 winning percentage; 5-4 recording during the playoffs  a .556 winning percentage.
