Revis back with the Jets

AFC East Update

He’s back!!! All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis has officially signed with the team that drafted him and spent most of his career with (from 2007-2012) the New York Jets. A year after signing with the Patriots and winning a Super Bowl last month, Revis decided to go back to New York mainly because that’s where the money was. Revis, now 30-years-old is still an elite corner and is yet again a winner of free agency as he continues to maneuver his way efficiently from contract to contract maximizing potential dollar earnings in his career. This new contract with the Jets is reported to be five-years $70 million with a staggering $39 million guaranteed, which works out to $16 million a season.

The Patriots’ franchise on the other hand must endure a huge loss to their secondary. Revis leaving town and Brandon Browner on his way out potenitally leaves gaping holes in their secondary. Bill Belicheck’s defensive scheme with an elite cover corner in Revis and bump and run specialist in Browner allowed him to leave his corners on an island and send more pressure after opposing quarterbacks. The Patriots’ chances of repeating as champions took a major hit with Revis’ departure.
