Fantasy Football Start/Sit Lineup Decisions Week 16
By: Jarred David @ricco_3733
Well, the year has come to an end. We are all depressed in some fashion or another. It’s the last week that means nothing to 90% of your league mates. If you’ve stuck it out with me, I’m grateful for your viewership and truly hope I’ve helped more than hurt your team. As with anything and anyone in fantasy football, no one will ever predict or know everything.
Hopefully you made it to the championship. My teams went two out of three, both of which include matchups with who I played last year and lost both. Cue Redemption Song by Bob Marley… or something. Anyhow, let’s go to the championship edition of start/sit.
Quarterback Starts of the Week
Ryan Tannehill vs NO – As promised, Tannehill is here again. The Saints is about dead center in passing yards per game allowed, allow 14th most points per game, and rank bottom ten in passing TDs allowed. Even with Janoris Jenkins coming to town, I don’t see him being a difference maker yet.
Jameis Winston vs HOU – Winston has been doing extremely well. However, he will be without Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. I’d still start him, but I’m placing him on the low-end QB1 tier with good upside in this matchup against Houston’s horrid secondary.
Honorable Mention: Drew Brees @ TEN since he’s been on fire.
Quarterback Sits of the Week
Jared Goff @ SF – I’m sure you’re noticing a pattern with last week’s article, but Richard Sherman is returning this week. Furthermore, “Jaroad” Goff is still on the road against a high tier Niners defense.
Josh Allen @ NE – I’m seriously not copying last week’s article… but matchups have fallen perfectly. Josh Allen struggled mightily against the Pats last time. Being in Foxboro, I don’t anticipate this will change.
Honorable Mention: Tom Brady vs BUF
Running Back Starts of the Week
Marlon Mack vs CAR – Putting him here last week may have burned you badly. For that, I apologize. However, I have some good news if you will trust him. Marlon Mack is matched up against Carolina’s third worst rush defense in the league and allows the fourth most points per game which makes him a solid start.
Joe Mixon @ MIA – Joe Mixon’s late surge has placed him here. He has an amazing matchup against the Dolphins after accruing 282 yards and one rushing touchdown the past two weeks.
Honorable mention: Devonta Freeman @ Jax; Phillip Lindsay vs DET
Running Back Sits of the Week
Le’Veon Bell vs PIT – I wanted to put him under starts for the “revenge game.” However, I don’t see it happening. Bell hasn’t eclipsed 100 yards all year and has four total touchdowns. I’m keeping him in FLEX territory at best due to usage.
Todd Gurley @ SF – Teams have proven they can run against the Niners this year. Although that’s true, I believe the Niners will scheme for Gurley and force Goff to throw the football.
Wide Receiver Starts of the Week
DeVante Parker vs CIN – Parker continues to have a solid season. He’s earned a starting spot as a low end WR1.
Tyler Boyd @ MIA – It’s Miami, as usual. Boyd is a solid WR2 with WR1 upside this week. Start him!
Honorable Mentions: Terry McLaurin vs NYG; Greg Ward vs DAL
Wide Receiver Sits of the Week
Tyler Lockett vs ARI – Simply put, Lockett will be seeing a lot of Patrick Peterson. This may be a better game for Metcalf.
John Brown @ NEP – Stephon Gilmore will be watching Brown. He’s a fade if you have depth.
Tight End Starts of the Week
Tyler Higbee @ SF – The Niners cover the tight end spot really well. However, we all know how thin this position, thus warranting starting him given how tremendous he has been the past two weeks.
Kaden Smith @ WAS – This is truly a streamer if you don’t own any of the top five options. Kaden Smith is Engram’s replacement and played all snaps last week against the Dolphins, which gives him opportunity.
Tight End Sit of the Week
To be blunt, it’s the fantasy playoffs. Your options are limited outside of the top 5 and the three streamers mentioned above. Email us or give us a shout if you have a unique situation.
Defense Starts of the Week
PIT DST @ NYJ – This is probably common sense, but the Steelers continue to be amazing in all elements of the game.
Defense Sits of the Week
TEN DST vs NO – As mentioned before, Drew Brees has been infuego! I wouldn’t trust Tennessee to slow him down.
