It truly is an indictment of former first-round pick E.J. Manuel. The Bills had entertained signing journeyman Josh McCown and his career 61:59 TD/INT ratio but the 35-year-old decided to sign with the Cleveland Browns. The Bills receive Cassel who is expected to compete with E.J. Manuel for the starting quarterback position during training camp and the preseason along with a 2015 sixth-round pick. The Vikings shed Cassel’s cap number of $4.75 million and will receive a 2015 fifth-round pick and 2016 seventh-round pick in the exchange. There was never any question about it, but the Vikings are clearly Teddy Bridgewater’s team.
Cassel’s 96:70 TD/INT ratio isn’t spectacular by any stretch of the imagination but on the surface the Bills have made a moderate improvement at quarterback. Expect Cassel to spend most of this time managing the game and handing the ball off to newly acquired LeSean McCoy.
